Help Archer – a Brave 15-Year-Old Cat Ready for His Forever Home
Honiton Branch of Cats Protection was alerted to a stray cat in Axminster with a badly affected eye. A kind couple had been feeding him for around two months and were desperate to get him help.
Thanks to quick action by volunteers from our Torbay and Honiton branches, Archer (formerly Shades) came into our care and was taken straight to the vets. He was found to be microchipped, but sadly his original owner had moved to Scotland 10 years ago and was unable to take him back. It was agreed that staying with Cats Protection was the best outcome for Archer.
At 15 years old, Archer’s eye was extremely painful, with very high pressure and concerns about glaucoma or cancer. Urgent surgery was needed to remove the eye. The operation alone cost £789.
Thankfully, the surgery was a success. The tumour was removed before it had spread, and the vet believes we caught it early. Archer has since recovered well, put on weight, and is now much brighter and more comfortable.
Further investigations revealed that Archer also had renal (kidney) disease, meaning additional scans, tests, and ongoing veterinary care were needed. Between his eye operation, diagnostics, and kidney scans, Archer’s care has cost nearly £2,000.
We’re delighted to say that Archer has now been signed off as fit for homing by our vets and is ready to be advertised for a loving home where he can enjoy his golden years.
Your donation will help us cover the significant costs of Archer’s treatment and allow us to continue helping cats like him when they need us most. Every pound really does make a difference.
Thank you for helping Archer get his second chance 💛
If we are lucky enough to raise over our target, any other donations will go to other cats in our care.
