Help our nine ‘chocolate box’ kittens grow strong

Nine tiny kittens. One cardboard box. Thankfully, someone found them in time.

Abandoned beside a road in Broadhembury, these vulnerable kittens were discovered by a dog walker who reached out for help. Our volunteers at Cats Protection Honiton & Axe Valley were able to take them into care and give them a chance of survival.

Believed to be from two litters, they were just two and three weeks old when they were found — far too young to be without their mums. Some were underweight, and all needed treatment for fleas and worms.

We named the six girls and three boys Caramel, Fudge, Toffee, Cocoa, Truffle, Mocha, Praline, Cinnamon and Kirsch — because they were so sweet and arrived in a box.

Nine little lives needing round-the-clock care

Our volunteer fosterer, Heidi, has been caring for all nine kittens, providing everything their mothers would normally give them: warmth, feeds every two hours and help with toileting.

Heidi said: “I wasn’t sure that the kittens would survive after their ordeal. They are beautiful kittens, but the care they need is constant.”

Now around four and five weeks old, they still need dedicated care to help them grow stronger and prepare for loving homes.

Please help us raise £1,000

Our volunteer-run branch fundraises to cover its costs, and nine unexpected arrivals mean nine extra mouths to feed.

Your donation will help towards kitten milk, food, flea and worm treatments, veterinary care and the everyday essentials these little ones need.

Every gift, whatever the size, will help us care for them as they grow. Any money raised above our £1,000 target will support other cats and kittens in our branch’s care.

If you cannot donate, sharing this appeal would mean so much to us.

Thank you for giving our chocolate box kittens the chance of a brighter future.

The kittens will be advertised at cats.org.uk/honiton when they are ready for new homes.

If we raise extra money if will go towards the cost of caring for other cats and kittens that are surrendered to our branch.

The cost to the branch for preparing each cat for rehoming is around £250 and any additional funds raised will be used for them or other cats in the branch's care.
