04/09:
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My name is Honor, I work for the Church in Wales and ChristChurch Wrexham and you might find me playing the grand piano in Ty Pawb from time to time.
I have had a period of health challenges over the last years, starting with shattering my ankle badly, and early this year I was in hospital on a nebuliser, struggling to breathe following a nasty virus which left me extremely fatigued, depressed & anxious for quite some time.
I hadn't exercised for a while and started swimming early June to help aid my recovery. Little by little, I got much further along than I thought I would, which I'm so grateful for, so have decided to do a fundraiser for WREXHAM FOODBANK as I continue to swim.
My heart is very much with people who are struggling to make ends meet while dealing with physical & mental health challenges.
WREXHAM FOODBANK provides a wonderful & increasingly crucial service in our community, making sure that nobody goes without food via a supply of amazing food parcels.
What am I up to?
Update: I've swum the Channel and am now going to swim back! Thank you for your support!
My aim is to swim the English Channel [22 miles / 1,416 laps] in Wrexham Waterworld's 25m pool, between 1st August & 1st January.
I will post regular updates of my progress.
What is happening in our Community?
More and more people are needing support from Wrexham Foodbank.
1 in 5 people across Wales have experienced food insecurity
A typical food parcel contains a minimum of three days of nutritionally balanced, non-perishable, tinned and dried foods that have been donated by the local community.
85,097 ~ number of 3-day parcels given since the Foodbank opened in 2012
29,495 ~ number of children fed since the Foodbank opened in 2012
10,600 food parcels were delivered last year.
Since the beginning of this year, the Foodbank has distributed around 800 parcels each month to those struggling to afford basic essentials.
This is 33% more than 4 years ago and demand is still rising!
On the other end, donation levels coming into the Foodbank warehouse are depleting.
If you can make a donation, no matter how small, it will make a difference to someone's life and well-being.
Thank you
~ Honor Parkinson
