Fernanda wasn't prepared for Jorges' reaction. When she told him she was fairly sure she was pregnant, she expected a warm shoulder to cry on and hopefully a kind word. Instead, she got an ultimatum with a threat attached. Get rid of it, or we are done, and I will go to my lawyer! Fernanda was shocked, hurt and fearful, all at the same time. She didn't want to be pregnant either, but the thought of abortion was appalling to her. How could this be happening to her? She moved to this area, away from her family, friends and community, to be with him, and now when she needed him, he was saying this to her??

Unfortunately, Fernanda is not the only client that Atwell has journeyed with over the years, experiencing the heartache of broken relationships and dreams.

Thankfully, Fernanda came to Atwell, and after meeting with our Registered Nurse, she was given valuable information about her pregnancy, including an ultrasound. At the same time, she was also informed of the supportive services available to her in the community. With the tools she was provided, Fernanda decided to continue her pregnancy! Fernanda shifted into our Stabilization Program, where she met with our social worker until she felt her upside-down world had righted itself, becoming a new mom without Jorge.

Fernanda had the strength to move forward with her unexpected pregnancy because of the support of people like you, Hope Oakville. Through your prayers and financial giving, Fernanda was able to have real-time information about her pregnancy with an ultrasound and holistic support from the Atwell Team. Thank you.
