Story

On August 4th, 2025, we lost the incredible Janine Turnbull—a woman who was, to the very end, brave, bright, bold, beautiful, and full of joy and love.

In her memory, and in honour of everyone living with motor neurone disease (MND), Stephen Brown and friends, as part of #TeamJanine, are undertaking a challenge that’s never been done before: an 85-mile ultramarathon called Hope to Healing from Hope train station in Derbyshire to Healing train station in Lincolnshire.

The run is the vision of Stephen, Janine’s brother-in-law and an experienced ultra runner, who created this route to represent the journey from Hope to Healing—a journey we’re still on, because there is no cure yet for MND.

On the 1st November 2025, Stephen will be running from Hope to Healing train station in Lincolnshire along with James Hargan and others who may join for part or all of the journey.

All money raised will go directly to SITrans via the MND Association as part of #TeamJanine's legacy.

The Sheffield Institute for Translational Neuroscience (SITraN) is leading the way in global MND research. Their scientists are closer than ever to a cure—expecting breakthroughs for genetic forms of MND within 3 years, and hoping for a cure for the sporadic form (which affects 90% of patients) within the decade.

Let’s make that hope real—together.

Thank you for supporting us, for honouring Janine, and for believing in a future free from MND.
