Hope & Libby fundraiser for Salivary Gland Cancer UK

Brighton Marathon 2025 · 6 April 2025 ·
On April 6th 2025 we will be running the Brighton marathon to fundraise for Salivary Gland Cancer UK.
In March 2024 our Dad was diagnosed with stage 4 salivary gland cancer. The extent of his cancer means that it is incurable however he is currently undergoing treatment with the aim of controlling its growth. For as long as we can remember our Dad has been a runner and has completed over 150 marathons/ultra marathons, however due to the advancement of the cancer in his spine he is no longer able to run. Therefore, it felt natural for us to run our first marathon to help raise awareness and fundraise for Salivary Gland Cancer UK, a charity so fundamental to the research of his rare cancer.
Why Salivary Gland Cancer UK?
Salivary gland cancer forms less than 0.3% of all cancers globally and is vastly under-researched because of this. During the weeks following our Dad’s diagnosis we reached out to the Salivary Gland Cancer UK charity for advice, support and clarity surrounding his condition. The team were able to answer all of our queries and put us into contact with a consultant in Manchester who specialises in our Dad’s cancer and now oversees all of his treatment. As well as being a great support network for our family, the charity is fundamental to pushing for further research into salivary gland cancer to help improve treatment options and better educate professionals of this rare subgroup of the disease.
Thank you
