The Big 5 Challenge
Campaign by Birmingham Hospice (RCN 1156964)
For more than a century, our hospices have been part of Birmingham's story. Five years ago, we became one hospice with one shared purpose: providing outstanding care for local people and families. Help us celebrate with five days of fundraising. 💖

Story

We're John Ridd, John Hurley and Luke Manley from Birmingham Hospice, and we're taking on The Big Five Challenge to raise vital funds for Birmingham Hospice.

This August marks five years since our two hospices came together to become Birmingham Hospice, creating the largest provider of adult hospice care across Birmingham, Sandwell and Sutton Coldfield. To celebrate this milestone, we've formed a team called the Hospice Hunks and set ourselves an epic challenge.

Over three days, Tuesday 25 – Thursday 28 August 2026, we'll run between all 27 Birmingham Hospice charity shops, covering an incredible 70 miles. It's going to be physically demanding, but worth every step to support those who need our hospice teams most.

At Birmingham Hospice, we see first-hand the difference specialist hospice care makes. Every day, our dedicated teams provide expert care, comfort and compassion to people living with a terminal diagnosis, while also supporting the family members and loved ones around them during some of life's most difficult moments.

As a charity, Birmingham Hospice relies on the generosity of people like you. We estimate it will cost £20 million this year to provide these essential services, ensuring the 685 people currently receiving care from our hospice teams each day, along with their loved ones, have access to the support they need. Every pound raised helps Birmingham Hospice continue to deliver outstanding care across our communities.

That's why we're lacing up our running shoes and taking on this challenge. Every mile we run is for the patients, families and our colleagues.

If you're able to support us, we'd be incredibly grateful. Whether it's a small donation or simply sharing our page, you'll be helping Birmingham Hospice continue to provide compassionate, specialist care for local people when they need it most.

Thank you so much for your generosity and encouragement. Together, we can help Birmingham Hospice continue making every moment matter.
