This summer we had the privilege to visit Romania and volunteer with Hospices of Hope, supporting a much needed seaside respite break for children with life limiting conditions and their families. Our trip was inspiring, full of love, fun and laughter. We spent time in the sea, making sandcastles, playing games, doing crafts, entertaining and generally making life a little easier and a little more fun for everyone.
Our eyes were also opened to the basic care provided for those in need by the state. Wheelchairs are supplied but only reviewed every 5 years, during which time the children are growing and adapting to the limits of their health conditions. This results in wheelchairs which are not suitable and as a result make their quality of life even worse. Having spent time with this amazing group of families who show strength and determination every day even in the face of adversity we want to do a little more to help.
It costs approximately £525 to buy a new wheelchair so we are aiming to improve the quality of life of 4 children, more if we can.
