Story

Thanks so much for clicking the link!

I’m trying to raise £5,000 for Wetherby in Support of the Elderly (WiSE) – and I’ve signed up for four races, including a marathon in December. Back in January I couldn’t even run 3km without wanting to throw up, so this is a big one for me!

WiSE is a small local charity doing amazing work for older people in Wetherby and surrounding villages. I became a trustee in 2024, but I first came across them through their Memory Café – a warm, welcoming space where people living with dementia and their carers can chat, dance, listen to music, and just feel like themselves again.

That café really struck a chord with me. My grandma lived with dementia for over 10 years, and my grandad was her full-time carer. I saw how hard and lonely that journey was – not just for her, but for him too. Places like the Memory Café would’ve made such a difference to them, and they’re making that difference to others now.

WiSE also runs services like befriending, transport, community cafés and craft groups – all of which help fight isolation in older age. But like many charities, they’re seeing funding cuts just as demand is going up.

If you can spare a few minutes to donate any amount, it would go such a long way. Thank you!
