We are a frontline service that collects and organises community donations of all kinds which we then distribute to those facing acute hardship in London. We are now one of the main points of support for those seeking asylum, the homeless, DV survivors & many other groups

Story

On 26 April 2026, I’ll be running my first ever marathon — the London Marathon — to raise money for Lewisham Donation Hub, the Mayor of Lewisham’s chosen charity for 2025/26.

A few years ago, I wouldn’t have called myself a runner. That changed when I started going to my local parkrun and gradually building confidence. More recently, I completed my first half marathon — the Chislehurst Half — with friends from NCT. It was a tough trail route, but it showed me that if you keep going, even when it’s uncomfortable, you can do more than you ever thought possible.

Since becoming a dad to Arabella, I’ve found an extra reason to push myself. When training gets tough, I remind myself that the challenge is temporary — but the impact we can make for others can last far longer.

I’ve stood on the sidelines of the London Marathon many times, cheering people on and admiring their determination. I never imagined I would be one of them. But now, those early 6am runs in the cold and rain feel like preparation not just for race day, but for doing something meaningful with the opportunity I’ve been given.

I’m running for Lewisham Donation Hub because of what I see daily in my role as Head of the Mayor’s Office at Lewisham Council. Cost‑of‑living pressures are still hitting people hard. What may feel like a small donation can make a huge difference — £10 can unlock around £90-worth of essential toiletries, warm clothing, or food, thanks to the Hub’s bulk buying and careful sourcing.

During my recent visit to the Hub, I saw first-hand what makes it so important. It’s entirely volunteer‑led, powered by the community, and built on dignity. Some volunteers once relied on the Hub themselves; now they’re giving back, helping others access food, clothing, and household essentials without barriers or judgment.

The Hub deals with real, immediate needs. A donation might help buy a microwave so someone can heat their food safely. It might mean a parent leaving with warm gloves for winter, or a household getting the basic items needed to feel stable and secure. Individually these things seem small — together, they transform lives.

I know how fortunate I am to have a stable job, a safe home, and a supportive family. Not everyone has that security, and circumstances can change quickly. The Hub is there in those moments — turning generosity into practical, timely help.

If you remember one thing from this page, let it be this: your donation goes further than you think. Every pound is stretched to support as many people as possible.

Thank you for supporting my run — and for helping turn miles into meaningful support for people across South East London.
