Hussain's Hike

Hussain's Hike 2024 · 14 July 2024
I'm Halima, and my little brother was Hussain. I never know how to tell our story, because words never really seem to do my little brother justice!
Hussain was born with an extremely rare genetic disorder and neuro-disabilities which affected his entire life. I could go into all the medical details, but actually this would never describe the sassy, wonderful person he was. His smile was huge and cheeky, his soul bright and mischievous, and his presence magnificent. He loved music, swimming, and mercilessly roasting his siblings and friends.
One of the biggest joys in Hussain's short life was attending school and being around all of his friends. He didn't just develop at school, he thrived. He had incredible experiences from the opportunities and care afforded to him at the Children's Trust. He was a popular teen, winning awards for best halloween costume, prom king, and adored his music and hydrotherapy sessions.
Hussain wouldn't have had the quality of life that he did without the wonderful staff, support, and facilities at the Children's Trust. I wouldn't have had the cheekiest, brightest little brother had it not been for the bespoke and specialist curriculum helping him develop to the best of his abilities. This is why a few of my best friends are hiking with me in memory of Hussain and in support of the incredible work that the Children's Trust does for children with neuro-disability.
Every year, 40,000 children in the UK are left with a brain injury as a result of an accident or illness, with many unable to access the support they desperately need. The Children's Trust aims to support more children with brain injury and neuro-disability to give them the best life possible. We are hiking in memory of Hussain, but also to support the Children's Trust in achieving these aims.
