Story
I am running the West Highland Way Race on 17 June 2023 in aid of Haemophilia Scotland, a cause very close to my heart.
Haemophilia is a rare condition which affects the blood's ability to clot. This can lead to spontaneous bleeding as well as bleeding from injuries. There's no cure for haemophilia but injections of clotting factor every few days can help to prevent and treat prolonged bleeding.
My commitment to this cause is personal - my nephew James has severe haemophilia B. Since his diagnosis at the age of 8 months, James has dealt with his condition - and all the treatment he has to endure - with amazing strength and courage and doesn't let it hold him back.
Haemophilia Scotland's mission is to campaign for optimal treatment and care for those affected, to provide direct support to families, and to foster a community where individuals can share experiences and support one another. They play a crucial role in enhancing the quality of life for haemophilia sufferers, working closely with health service providers, suppliers, and policy makers.
So, I'm running the 95 miles of the WHW in honour of our wee hero James and people like him. Every pound raised will be a step forward in fighting this condition. Your donation will support the remarkable work of Haemophilia Scotland, making a tangible difference in the lives of people like James.
No contribution is too small – every bit helps and will lead to better care and brighter futures for those living with haemophilia.
