Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer. Just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this disease. We are a leading voice calling for support and action for research into what is called the last battleground against cancer.

Story

My name is Iain Fulton and I’m running the 2026 Boston Marathon to raise funds for Brain Tumour Research.

According to Brain Tumour Research, one in three people in the UK know someone affected by a brain tumour. What’s more, brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer, yet historically just 1% of the national cancer research spend has been allocated to this devastating disease. Brain Tumour Research is determined to change this, and your support will help to fund the fight.

My friend and colleague Lisa’s university friend Glenn was diagnosed with a life threatening brain tumour just over two years ago. Glenn’s determination to fund a Scottish research centre to help current and future sufferers is inspirational. Running a marathon is a tiny contribution but the funds we can raise can have a lasting impact.

Here is Glenn’s story….

My name is Glenn Campbell.

As a journalist based in Edinburgh, I have made my career telling other people’s stories. Now I am sharing one of my own.

In summer 2023 I was diagnosed with a brain tumour at the age of 47.

It’s a big shock to be told you have a life limiting condition.

My tumour is almost certainly what will kill me although hopefully not for a long time yet.

I have already had surgery and with further treatment it should be possible to keep my tumour in check.

If that’s what happens, I will be very lucky. Because the outcome for far too many people like me is much bleaker.

According to Cancer Research UK:

* only 4 in 10 of those diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumour survive for a year or more

* fewer than 2 in 10 make it beyond 5 years

These grim statistics need to change. That’s why I have started Brain Power - a fundraising community to fight back against brain tumours.

The basic idea is that the more scientific brain power we can train on this problem, the more likely the experts are to make breakthroughs in treatment and their search for a cure.

Funds raised by our Brain Power Team are being donated to Brain Tumour Research to fund the work of their Scottish Brain Tumour Research Centre of Excellence.

The centre brings together scientists from the universities of Edinburgh and Glasgow, helps them scale up their research and progress promising new therapies into clinical trials.

The Scottish centre is part of a UK wide network with existing centres in London, Surrey and Plymouth.

If you would like to give the brain tumour patients of tomorrow faster diagnosis, better treatment and longer lives - please make a donation or join our fundraising family.
