Story
In April 2026, I’ll be running the London Marathon in memory of my amazing wife Helen AKA Hilda who died on 27th March 2025, after being diagnosed with Corticobasal Degeneration (CBD). CBD is a rare and devastating neurological condition in which brain cells gradually die in areas responsible for movement, coordination, and cognition. I’ll run the 26.2 miles with stubborn determination to do my best. I am in no doubt how hard it will be and I will have to dig deep but this condition has taught me and the four wonderful children we had together that digging deep is just part of the pathway for this condition. I will be running with my niece and together we will train and sweat so we can cross the line together and celebrate the life of one of the most beautiful people on the planet and raise awareness of this devastating disease.

CBD affects around 5 in every 100,000 people and there is currently no cure or treatment to slow its progression.
I’m running my first ever marathon at the age of 69 to raise awareness of this little-known disease and to raise vital funds for PSPA which is the only UK charity dedicated to improving the lives of those affected by CBD and related conditions. PSPA supports families, funds research, and works towards finding a cure or some form of treatment to halt the progress of this condition. That’s why I’m fundraising for the PSP Association (PSPA) — to help ensure others affected by CBD in the future have access to the care, information, and guidance we went without. Every step I take will be for her, and I hope you’ll support me on this personal journey to raise money and awareness in her name.
It will be the only event I do to honour her but one that I hope will raise lots of money from her wonderful friends and those that she served here in our community in Gloucestershire
Please join me in supporting this cause by donating whatever you can or by sharing this page. Together we can make a difference to the lives of those affected by CBD.
I will match fund every £ donated up to £2,500 and this will be given to The Gloucestershire Community Foundation so your donations will be serving two charities for the price of one.
