Story
Date / time: 10am Thursday 15th October - 12 noon Saturday 17th October 2026.
Info: Ian Alley (Student Welfare Officer) will be in The Hangar playing pool continuously for 50 hours, raising money for the Student Hardship Fund. Students, staff or indeed anyone can get involved by playing against Ian at any point during the 50 hours. All it will cost them is a donation to the Student Hardship Fund in The Hangar prior to playing.
I have a long history of charitable action over 25 years. Since starting this job, I have realised that many students find themselves in all manner of crisis situations, but to their immense credit, they try so hard to determinedly persist with their studies in the face of such challenging circumstances, and it is the University's dedicated student support staff and the Student Hardship Fund which often provides the necessary support for them to do so. I felt compelled to create this and future events which focus on helping these students, with involvement from fellow students, creating a cyclical 'students helping students' ethos.
I will only give myself brief breaks for the loo and to eat snacks between shots, and I will also be frequently changing waistcoats from my vast colourful and sparkly range to keep myself fresh and looking super!
