Ian Brooks is raising money for PCD Support UK

Team: 100G for PCD

Run Wigan Festival · 14 March 2026 ·

We are PCD Support UK. We’re here for those affected by PCD, we talk about PCD as widely as possible and we champion research to improve its diagnosis, management and treatment. Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia is a rare, genetic disease (1 in 7,500 people), causing recurrent respiratory infections.

Story

Owen, Oscar, Joe, Henry, James, Ben, Ethan and Jonny who are all in Year 8 at Bishop Rawstorne are taking part in the Run Wigan Festival 5k on March 15th as part of the HW Moon Toyota Team.

As well as supporting Joining Jack they are raising funds for PCD Support UK because Owen has a progressive lung disease called Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia (PCD).

People with PCD suffer from a steady decline in lung function as their lungs become damaged over time from repeated respiratory infections. Normally, cilia (tiny microscopic hairs) in the airways work constantly to clear the lungs of harmful bacteria, unfortunately the cilia do not work effectively in people with PCD.

Current treatments try to manage the decline in lung function but hopefully, with appropriate funding, new treatments can be developed.

Thank you for supporting the boys they really appreciate your support.
