Ian's fundraiser for Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team

Hardmoors Wainstones Trail Marathon · 7 May 2023
On April 2nd my father-in-law fell badly resulting in a broken femur that required an operation. He was rescued and tended to by Cockermouth Mountain Rescue. Until recently I wasn't 100% sure which charity I would run for, but now I feel this is the right cause and the best way to say "Thank You" to CMR for their swift response and care.
CMR are responsible for rescuing people and animals from the Buttermere, Ennerdale, Lorton and Loweswater valley areas of the Lake District, and in north west Cumbria:
- Available 365 days a year, 24 hours a day
- Volunteers spending 1500 hours per year on rescues
- A registered charity solely funded by voluntary contributions
- Annual operating costs of £100,000
My challenge:
To run the Wainstones marathon (part of the Hardmoors Race series) https://www.hardmoors110.org.uk/hardmoors-26-2-wainstones-trail-marathon/
Distance – 28 miles
Ascent – 5600 ft
I'm hoping to do this within 6 hours. I’ve been trail running for the last two and a half years so I have a good base fitness, but since before Christmas I’ve been training hard so I'm not taking this lightly as I know this is a very challenging race.
Donating:
I appreciate it’s a difficult time for many to even consider making donations, but no matter how small a donation you can make it will make a massive difference (Just Giving minimum is £2). To make it a little more worthwhile I’m going to hold a prize draw for one of my photographic prints. Every £5 donated will essentially buy you a place in the draw, so if you decide to donate £10 then your name will be entered twice (in the interest of transparency anonymous donations cannot be entered). The winner will be randomly drawn and asked to choose their favourite photograph from the selection of 3 (see photos). If the charity pot exceeds the £300 mark, then I will offer a second and third prize.
Please support me with this worthy cause and donate what you can.
Thank you!
