Story

Every family, friend and life we know has been touched by a story of Cancer. Every mile we run, we know we can choose pain where others have no choice, but also that we can go home to our family and our boys, in the knowledge that others can't, and their lives have been cut short.

Last year we set out to raise £15,000 split across 3 charities, Sarcoma UK (in memory of Amy), Cancer Research UK (in memory of our parents) and The Ruth Strauss Foundation. Thanks to so much generosity our fundraising stands at £8,620.40 to date.

We embarked upon 4 events during 2024 and into 2025;

1) The Windsor Easter 50km Ultra Marathon, April 2024 - done!

2) The 110km run round the Isle of Wight Challenge, May 2024 - done!

3) The New York Marathon - 3rd November 2024 - done!

4) The London Marathon - 27th April 2025 - rapidly approaching...!

Since then we've added a few more events.....

1) The Windsor Easter 50km Ultra Marathon, April 2025 - done again!

2) The Isle of Wight 53km Ultra, May 2025

3) The Jurassic Coast 50km, May 2025

4) The Frankfurt Ironman, Ian competing with Tom and Mark in June 2025.

5) Hopefully, London Marathon again in April 2026.

2025 marks 20 years since Sarah lost her mother to Breast Cancer, it is 6 years since Ian lost his Dad to Cancer, and 5 years since we lost our wonderful cousin Amy to Sarcoma. In September 2024, Ian lost his Mum following an Aortic tear on her heart whilst on holiday in Canada.

There are so many good causes to raise money for, however in 2025 we not only run in memory of those closest to us, but also to raise money for the Ruth Strauss Foundation, a charity that Ian volunteers for that raises money for rare lung cancers, and provides pre-bereavement counselling to children who have a parent with incurable cancer. A story similar to our own (except captaining England) with an Australian Mum, an English Dad, and children our age.

Please help us to remember and recognise the kindness, intelligence and fun-loving spirit of the people that inspired us all to embrace life fully.

Please help us to make every mile count as we push towards our target of £15,000!

With love and gratitude, Sarah & Ian

The Ruth Strauss Foundation

Our mission is to help provide emotional support for families with dependent children to prepare for the death of a parent from cancer; as well as raise awareness and funds for research into rare lung cancers.

Every pound you donate will make a difference in funding visionary research into rare lung cancers and vital wellbeing support to meet the emotional & psychological needs of families where a parent is living with an incurable cancer.

Fighting the lung cancers you don’t hear about. Supporting the suffering you don’t see.
