The James Bulger memorial trust was set up in 2010 and officially opened in March 2011. The aims and objectives of the charity are to benefit and offer support to young people, who are disadvantaged by reason of having become part of a bereavement, a victim of crime, hatred or bullying by making a positive contribution to the welfare of others or society in general, by offering free holidays and respite breaks.
The James Bulger Memorial Trust to date has helped 328 families (1655 people) in the Northwest of England and North Wales. The charity will be spreading across the rest of the country in time, as their aim is to use other holiday parks across the country.
The charity have helped 19 families that have required financial assistance with funeral arrangements, this is at an average of £3500 per family (£49,000 in total) and have directed those families onto organisations that the James Bulger Memorial trust works closely with.
12 families have required bereavement counselling which the charity have again, transferred their details to organisations they work closely with.
