EDF vows to help end the devastation of dementia. We aim to raise a whopping £300,000 through employee fundraising and £150,000 in additional donations, all supporting the cost of life changing dementia services and ground-breaking research.

Story

In 2022 my Dad had a stoke while in Italy, following and emergency operation and two weeks in a Covid isolated ICU in Turin we managed to get him medevac'ed back to the UK.

He started to recover from his stoke, relearning to walk and look after himself, but this recovery plateaued and he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and Vascular Dementia.

Over the past few years we have adjusted as a family to the changes brought about by this disease as my Dad started to loose his cognitive ability and struggled to comprehend simple tasks. Now at the age of 71 he is moving into a residential care setting to provide round the clock care for his complex needs.

I have chosen to support Alzheimers society through this cycling challenge as the charity has provided useful support over the last 3 years. Cycling has been a part of my life for the last 20 years through Bike-packing, Sportives, and more recently Mountain Biking and BMX Racing with my children.

This charity ride from London to Bruges for Alzheimer's Society champions the work done by a great charity helping people navigate a challenging time. This event brings a sport that has given me a lot and a cause that is unfortunately too close to home together and is a way for me to try and help raise money for a charity who's aim is to work towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives

EDF commit to raising a whopping £300,000 through employee fundraising to support Alzheimer’s Society services and ground-breaking dementia research.

Together we are help and hope for everyone living with dementia.
