Ian's fundraiser for ME Research UK

Ian Murdie is raising money for ME Research UK

Struggle:Ten · 24 May 2026

ME Research UK exists solely to fund high quality biomedical studies into the causes and treatment of ME/CFS. This illness affects approximately 250,000 people in the UK but is neither well understood nor, in many cases, properly recognised. We fund highly regarded, peer-reviewed research worldwide.

Story

Struggle:Ten is a bike ride like none I have ever done before. It goes up and down for 250 km around the Yorkshire Dales. I signed up knowing if I was fit enough it would be a fantastic day. We'll find out on the 24th of May if I have got myself fit enough...

I have decided to use this opportunity to raise money for ME research. Since Covid, ME/CFS has become more and more common. We have friends and a close family member who have lost years of their life to this debilitating fatigue. Yet there is so little known about this condition, doctors have little to offer and unless more research is done, we aren't going to know any more.

ME Research has awarded 74 full grants and 5 PhD-level awards since 2000 and invested over £5million. Their aim is that through biomedical research they can find the causes of ME/CFS, improve diagnosis and treatment, and, ultimately, arrive at a cure.
