Ian's 175 Km run for The Polycystic Kidney Disease Charity

Ian Ripper is raising money for The Polycystic Kidney Disease Charity

Devon coast to coast 112 miles ultra run with ClimbSouthWest · 18 April 2026

The PKD charity provides information and support to patients and families affected by polycystic kidney disease, funds research into discovering possible treatments and raises awareness of PKD, providing information to patients, the public, the medical community and the media.

Story

PKD Charity is a UK-based organization dedicated to supporting individuals and their families affected by Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD). As a charity we play a vital role in supporting and advocating for the 70,000 people in the UK who suffer with the incurable disease.

I'm raising money for the charity.

I enjoy running and have run a few long runs including the Dartmoor crossing (50kms) and even a 75 km run from wembworthy beach to Chagford, so no stranger to self induced suffering.

I also have polycystic kidney disease (PKD) along with 70,000 others in the UK, although I don't suffer much from it yet.

I attended a workshop day hosted by the PKD charity and was humbled to meet some awesome people who have been less lucky than me but were so generous with their time and sharing of their life stories.

It's inspired me to raise money for the cause. There's no cure yet, and only a few drugs to slow the progress of the disease.

I'll be 65 when I attempt the 175 km Devon coast to coast ultra run by Climb South West in April this year. This is way bigger than anything I've done, not least because it will be my first through-the-night run. The cut-off is 38 hours, so a real challenge. I hope you can help me support this important charity with a generous donation, or with just a couple of pounds. It's a great cause. Thank you.
