Story
I am taking on the very challenging 47 miles and 8530ft of the Lap Windermere in September to raise money for the extremely worthy Wigan Rotary Charity Fund, which supports multiple charities especially those based in our local area. The charity states that 'Rotary Club of Wigan is part of the everyday life of Wigan and is a catalyst for a number of landmark community developments in health, education and culture. It provides support for local charities and financial assistance to charities involved in vital humanitarian work in needy parts of the world. As part of the worldwide Rotary movement, our work is mirrored by Rotary clubs across the country.'
The route is a very tough endeavour for myself, especially in an anti clockwise direction with the big climbs of Wansfell and Loughrigg Fell are in the second half of the course. This will potentially be the longest distance event that I have done for over two years.
Weather and course conditions can be very varied in September and previous years have seen hot weather, stormy weather and mud underfoot.
However, I have a full 24 hours to get around and will be well fuelled with pepperoni pizza and proper coca cola en route :) I will be starting early at 6am with over 1500 others and potentially completing the event in the dark by headtorch.
I have been training hard all year in 2025 and have already reccied the full Lap route, as well as doing other events including the Hebden 22, Grizedale Marathon, Haworth Hobble, Spring in Lakeland LDWA, Pennine Barrier, Ullswater 20 and Lakeland Trails Marathon, with the Lakeland Trails Ultra and the Pennine Trails Marathon to come.
