Story
With the consequences of the pandemic expected to push over 2.5 million more people into financial hardship by the middle of 2021 the team decided that they wanted to develop an alternative and sustainable approach to food insecurity. The Courtyard Pantry, using the model created by the Scottish Pantry Network , was set up in partnership with Queens Cross Housing Association. This model offers choice to those facing economic hardship at the same time as tackling food waste. In March 2021, we opened our doors and now have over 300 members! For £2.50 a member can choose items to the value of between £10 -£15. This equates to around 10-12 individual items. Whilst £2.50 represents excellent value for money there are occasions when members may not have the money to stretch that far. We have set a target of raising £2500 to give out 1000 bags of shopping for our members who are most in need. Thank you for your support!
