Marathon (yes 42k) Peak District Hike!!!! · 21 September 2024
Whilst i have lost dear friends and family to this awful disease and i support Macmillain for the amazing work they do through donations, I don't really have a great story as to why I have decided to actually do a specific activity, let alone one that is hiking for 42k on the top of a mountain in the British Autumn time.
To be honest, i did not fully read what i was signing upto when asked to be involved and even after i said yes, i thought i would get out of it anyway nearer the time.
A few people tried to guilt /encourage me into keeping my word , through such clichés as:-
"it will be fun", "it is for a good cause", there are loads of us from work, so we can keep each other company and motivated" (that one really did make me laugh), "it is raising money for a good cause" and finally "you can drink Malbec once finished".
All i heard was Malbec and and that I had to donate some money...happy days.
However, Mrs Y has incentivized me by declaring how much she will personally donate, irrespective of whether I actually do it or not and if I don't do it, she will spend even more than that amount on a new handbag. Sounds admirable right...you don't know Mrs Y.
Basically the amount she has in mind to donate and buy her bag, will come from my holiday fund..so if i don't actually do the activity and raise the money through kind sponsors...then no holiday for me and my retirement date is extended into the unknown future!!!
So if you don't want to help Macmillan and I know you don't care whether I get to go on my holiday or not, surely the pictures or me in hiking boots, beanie hat, waterproof trousers, wet and cold, looking utterly miserable and out of my happy place, is worth a few pounds.
This is me at the thought of training for the event let alone doing it
