Story
Since 2020, a team of IMO delegates and Secretariat staff have completed a 100K cycle ride around Richmond Park, and remotely from other parts of the world, to support seafarer's welfare. The situation in Ukraine in the Red Sea and other impacts on shipping have dramatically affect the lives of seafarers around the globe. They are our unsung heroes, delivering nearly everything we eat, wear and consume often under very trying circumstances and in harsh conditions. And they need the support that charities such as the Mission to Seafarers can provide. Now in its 6th year, the Team IMO Cycle for Seafarers has become a very successful event - let's keep it going this year!
This year's ride will occur on July 5th 2025, just before the IMO Council meeting. Team IMO draws riders from the IMO Member States, the Secretariat, Inter-governmental Organizations and Non-Governmental Organizations. This year's team includes: Damien Chevalier, George Purcell, Will Griffiths, Michael Guy, Feray Yalcuk, Caroline & Frederic Neumann and Hassam Emara, (IMO Secretariat), Gillian Grant (IOPC Funds Secretariat), Geoff Guy, Kapila Malawwethanthri and Frank McNulty (Bahamas), Diederick Wéreau (Belgium), Jose Augusto Cunha, Adriano Cruz, Caroline Branco and Marcelo Morais (Brazil), Michelle Sanders (Canada), Eric and Valerie Levert (France), Mark Gebauer (Germany), TS Hazrool and MA Dr Julyus (Malaysia) Ian Lancaster (New Zealand), Anays Berrocal and Augustin Lopez (Panama), Carlos Sequeira (Portugal), Khalid Al-Bakri (Qatar), Fred Kenney (CLIA), Bruce Anderson (IAPH), Phil Belcher and Jon Chaplin (Intertanko), George Charampilidis (WSC) and Unni Einemo (WNTI). If you would like to participate as a rider, contact Fred Kenney at fkenney@cruising.org . If you'd like to come out on July 5th and cheer Team IMO on, it is a lovely day in the park.
But most importantly, please give generously. Our seafarers need the support the Mission to Seafarers provides. And the Mission needs your support.
