Story
I'm running the Sheffield Half Marathon 2025 in honor of my grandad, who is living with frontotemporal dementia. It's my way of showing love and support for him during a time when he might not fully understand everything, but I know he would be proud.
Dementia is a cruel thief, stealing not just memories but the very essence of the person you love. It’s a unique kind of grief, because you start mourning long before the final goodbye. I mourn the conversations I can no longer have with grandad , the way he used to laugh, the small gestures that once defined him. And even though he’s still physically present, in many ways, it’s like I’ve lost him bit by bit over time.
This race is not just about finishing; it's about raising awareness for a condition that affects so many families. Watching him struggle with something so unpredictable and heart-wrenching has inspired me to take action. The funds raised will go towards supporting research, raising awareness, and helping families affected by dementia.
Every step I take is for him and for everyone battling this illness, in the hope that we can find a cure and improve the quality of life for those living with it. I kindly ask you to support my fundraising goal of £250 for the Alzheimer's Society. Together, we can make a difference.
