We are thrilled to be embarking on an exhilarating adventure in 2025 – a daring skydive for The Grand Appeal. This leap isn't just about conquering personal fears; it's a soaring commitment to make a meaningful impact on the lives of children at Bristol Children's Hospital.

As many of you will know, this charity is close to our hearts as they are the main fundraisers for Bristol Children's hospital where our lovely 4 year old Olive has been cared for frequently since her birth (Daughter to Nathan, Granddaughter to Paul, Niece to Katie and Rob).

Olive was born with a rare condition called an Occipital Encephelocele, this is a neural tube defect and affects 1 in 10,000 with a survival rate of 55%. Olive received complex brain surgery at under 24hrs of age at Bristol Children’s Hospital and subsequently developed a complex form of hydrocephalus. This has also required frequent planned and emergency surgery and shunt insertions on an often yearly basis, all at Bristol Children’s Hospital.

Olive and her parents Nathan and Jenna have been so fortunate to benefit first hand from the work that the Grand Appeal funds- from music therapists, pet therapy and support dogs, to providing accomodation for them on the hospital site when Olive was being treated in the intensive care unit for the first week of her life. These services have at times been a little beacon of light bringing moments of joy in what have sometimes been really long and draining admissions for them all.

They feel forever indebted to the incredible Surgeons and Nurses who have become like family after first meeting them following their 20 week scan with Olive. They have since journeyed with them during Olives many yearly admissions and continue to play a vital role in Olives life in ensuring she has every opportunity to thrive and live a normal life.
