Woking & Sam Beare Hospice is a charity that delivers specialist palliative care to adult patients of all ages who have life-limiting and terminal illnesses in the North West Surrey region, providing free of charge holistic care and support services both in our hospice and in homes.

Story

Two years ago I lost my Dad to cancer at the young age of 56. He was diagnosed in June 2023 and passed away 3 months later in September 2023. The cancer was already at stage 4 by the time it was discovered. 2023 was the worst year of my life!

In his final days he was cared for with dignity, compassion and genuine kindness by the team at Woking Sam Beare Hospice. The team there are angels in disguise, they really are! Their support and efforts made my Dad comfortable in his final moments on this earth, and I will always be grateful for the way they looked after him.

To honour his memory and to give back to the hospice that cared for him, I am running the London Marathon in 2026. This is a big challenge for me as I've never run further than 5km! Now I'm going to run 42km! Seeing what my Dad went through, it should be a breeze in comparison!

My goal is to raise £5000 to help the hospice continue its remarkable work for other families facing the most difficult moments of their lives.

The hospice receives no funding from the government and is run purely on charitable donations. Every donation, no matter the size, brings me closer to that target and helps ensure the hospice can keep providing the outstanding care that made such a difference to my Dad.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for supporting this cause that is so close to my heart.

Love you Dad! xx
