Story
The world of sports journalism lost one of its great, passionate writers recently and the Celtic Family lost one of its own.
Brian McNally passed away after an Illness surrounded by family on 17th June 2024 at North Tyneside Palliative Care Unit, aged 76 years. Brian, much loved husband of Gill and a dear brother of Anne and Kathleen.
Brian spent much of his career covering sport in his own inimitable style, over 40 years at the top of his game. One of life's true characters, Brian was a passionate Celtic supporter, wanting nothing but the best for his beloved Hoops. Many of us had the pleasure of his company as we discussed all aspects of our Club. Whether we agreed all the time or not, Brian's love of Celtic shone through and laughter was an ever present.
Brian was a keen supporter of Celtic FC Foundation, and eagerly participated in a number of the Foundation's annual golf days in the early years, helping it to be the popular and successful event it has become. Brian's enthusiasm moved seamlessly from the golf course to the hospitality of the clubhouse where more laughter ensued.
Time spent in Brian's company was time well spent. His warmth and generosity of spirit was clear for all to see with his love of all things Celtic a constant.
That was a love Brian carried right to the end as he was able to watch his team secure a Scottish Cup Final success just a few short weeks ago. He summed up his love of the club in one of his final tweets as only he could.
"Thanks Celtic. You have been a constant inspiration in my life and mean much more to me than simply a great Football Club and a constant inspiration to the underdog."
Many of us could say the same of Brian who, like his team, was a Champion, and we ask, if you are able to, to make a donation to Celtic FC Foundation in his memory
Thank you
