We are heartbroken to share that our dad Sean Garrett passed away peacefully on 2 August at the age of 67, following a short illness.

He was a much-loved and valued part of his community through his work with The George Garrett Archive, celebrating the life and work of his grandad, the Liverpool activist and writer. Sean cared deeply about social justice and loved connecting George’s activism with young people from his local area.

As part of the archive project, Sean worked with pupils at St Vincent de Paul Catholic Primary School – George’s former school – sharing George's story and exploring ideas around poverty, inequality and the right to food and encouraging them to explore their own creativity through writing. He was particularly proud to be involved in the pupils’ recreation of the 1922 Hunger March, bringing George’s campaign for the right to food to life for a new generation. With this in mind, in place of funeral flowers we are asking for donations to Micah Liverpool Food Bank, supporting their work providing emergency food aid and tackling poverty in the city Sean loved. Micah operates from St Vincent’s Church in the Baltic Triangle, neighbouring the school where George once studied and where Sean helped bring his work to life. And from St Bride's in the Georgian Quarter, an area of the city Sean loved to wander.

Every donation, however large or small, will help continue Micah’s work in Liverpool and would be a meaningful way to honour our dad.
