The Nepal Trust is working with Health, Education, Renewable Energy, Heritage Preservation and Eco-Tourism in the far NW of Nepal. Its main objective is to help create community projects that emphasize local participation and responsibility and give hope to the people of this very remote and impoverished area, where every day is a struggle for survival.

Story

Tony has spent his whole life quietly dedicating his time to so many wonderful causes, touching the hearts of many people along the way. There are two charities that have been a large part of Tony's life for a very long time, the Nepal Trust and the Royal National Lifeboat Institute (RNLI).

The Nepal Trust works with Health, Community Development and Hope in the Hidden Himalayas.

Tony's love for Nepal, began over 40 years ago, when he took his family all the way from Scotland to Kathmandu, making Nepal their home for the next 4 years. Tony lived and worked in Nepal from 1980 to 84. While there he was heavily involved with forestry sustainability and conservation work. Subsequently Tony made regular visits to Nepal and kept in close touch with many friends and contacts made over the years . He joined the Nepal Trust in 1995 and was Chairman from 1998 to 2006. Amongst many notable achievements made while chairman he includes organising the legal change from being a Charity to becoming a A Limited Company with Charitable Status and also the award in 2005 of the PremioItalgas prize for Projects in the Environment chosen by a group of distinguished Nobel prize winners and world scientists. The award was made at a glittering ceremony in Turin and the Nepal trust remains the current holder of this prestigious environmental honour, which we believe is an award that no other charity has achieved. It was for our work with renewable energy in Humla, one of the remotest and most inaccessible parts of the world.

Tony's love, passion and commitment to Nepal has remained strong, the people of Nepal hold a very special place in his heart and we know he would be honoured to be able to continue his legacy through his family and friends.

The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea. They do this through lifeboat search and rescue, lifeguards, water safety education and flood rescue. Tony's mother, Nora, was heavily involved with this amazing charity for most of her life and following Nora's passing, Tony decided to step into her shoes and has continued to support the work of the RNLI for the past 30 years.

In honour of Tony, please consider donating a small amount so the Nepal Trust and RNLI can continue the wonderful work he was so passionate about. All proceeds raised will be split equally between both charities in memory of Tony Sharpe, our wonderful husband, father, granddad and friend.
