We’ve been improving the lives of those who work or have worked at sea, and their families, for over 100 years. Established in 1917 as The King George's Fund for Sailors, to support the families of seafarers lost at sea during World War One, we support seafarers throughout their career and beyond.

Story

"it is very nice to be remembered by those in whose company one has spent many happy hours- as I have"

Remembrance is something that is really important to us at 3rd Cleethorpes. We lost 27 of our members in service or in the Second World War and we use their letters, photographs and research to run activities and events to ensure that their voices and stories are always remembered.

Some of our Scouts are going to mark 80 years since the end of the Second World War by undertaking a half marathon hike- An epic 13 miles around our area, visiting the homes, workplaces and places that were dear to our group's casualties, as well as paying our respects at the surrounding memorials. Because we believe that remembrance should be practical rather than performative we will be raising money for the RBL, the RAFA and the Seafarers Charity. Please consider supporting our efforts.

The Seafarers' Charity makes a life-changing impact in troubled times. Our grants to organisations support those who work – or have worked – at sea, and their families. Proactive and forward-looking, we also seek ways to prevent issues becoming problems. Through funding collaboration, research and advocacy, we tackle the root causes of seafarer hardship and disadvantage in the UK and around the world.
