India Dodgson is raising money for Stargardt's Connected

Rome Marathon · 22 March 2026

Stargardt's Disease is an inherited progressive condition that affects the retina. It causes blurring of vision and problems in seeing fine details such as recognising faces and reading a book. Please donate to help raise awareness, give support and to fund research to find treatments and a cure.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In March, I’ll be running Rome Marathon to raise money for Stargardt’s Connected — an important cause to me.

Last year, my friend’s little girl, Rose, was diagnosed with Stargardt’s disease at just 8 years old. Stargardt’s is a rare genectic eye condition that causes progressive vision loss, often beginning in childhood. It affects central vision, making everyday things like reading, recognising faces, and seeing clearly increasingly difficult. There is currently no cure, and the uncertainty of how quickly vision may change is one of the hardest parts for families to live with. There is reason to hope however, with multiple treatment options in trial.

From the moment of Rose’s diagnosis, life changed for them in ways no family ever expects or prepares for. I’ve seen first-hand the heartbreak, fear, and constant uncertainty this diagnosis has brought into their lives. And yet, what stands out above everything else is Rose’s courage. She is far braver than any child should have to be. She continues to smile, adapt, and inspire everyone around her, and she deserves every possible chance for support, understanding, and hope.

Stargardt’s Connected is the only charity in the UK dedicated solely to Stargardt’s disease. They provide incredible support to families through vital support, guidance, and reassurance that they are not alone, while also funding research that could one day change lives.Having experienced their amazing support first-hand since Rose was diagnosed, we want to help ensure they can continue being there for other families navigating this condition and facing the same uncertainty.

As for the marathon… this will be my return to running after maternity leave, which has been a challenge to say the least. This was made very clear early on in training when I was overtaken by the tailwalker at the back of parkrun — a humbling moment. But every mile, no matter how slow, will be run with Rose and families like hers in mind, and that’s what will keep me going all the way to the finish.

If you’re able to support this fundraiser in any way, I would be so grateful. Every donation, no matter the size, means hope for Rose, her family, and so many others walking the same difficult path. Thank you for taking the time to read, care, and support such a worthwhile cause. ❤️
