2Wish
Its important to state that without Josh and 2wish's support I would must likely not be here.
2wish provides immediate bereavement support for families, individuals and professionals who have suddenly and traumatically lost a child or young adult aged 25 years and under.
When a family loses a child or young adult the effects are devastating for all who knew and loved them. It is important that support is available if and when required.
It is important families know that they are not alone and that the feelings they are experiencing are often normal.
Indie's Story
Indie Neil Antonia Inkpen born on the 8th of Jan 2022 at 1:27am
Indie wasn't just a toddler; she was a bundle of joy, a little explorer filled with wonder and laughter. Her cheeky smile, those mesmerising bluey/green eyes brimming with curiosity, and the infectious giggles that could warm even the coldest of hearts—these are the memories we hold dear.
The story of Indie's name is one woven with friendship and love. Chosen long before she came into this world, her name was a testament to the bonds of camaraderie. It was during a casual gathering with dear friends that the name "Indie" found its roots, a name cherished by all present, a name destined for a child who would bring immense joy to our lives.
Indie's journey began on May 8th, 2021, a momentous day filled with excitement and anticipation as Jodie told me she was pregnant. Jodie’s pregnancy was great, apart from a little sickness, heartburn, and old wife’s tales. Whenever we were around people and JP got heartburn, we would hear someone say, “oh you with have a hairy baby” this annoyed me; however, as a result this did spawn the nickname Little Bear.
Our Little Bear’s arrival, weighing 7lbs 9oz, marked the beginning of a new chapter—a chapter brimming with pride and love as Jodie, and I embraced parenthood with open arms.
As Indie grew, so did the circle of love and support around her. We were fortunate to have Jasmine and Josh, our dear friends, step forward as Indie's guardians, showering her with love and care. Together, we witnessed Indie's first steps, her first word ‘Bubbles’, and marvelled at her intelligence and curiosity.
Indie's days were filled with adventures, from walks on the beach to playtime with her cherished friends and family. She had a special bond with Prince, her faithful companion, and shared countless joyous moments with him.
Her love for music and dance was infectious, her laughter echoing through our home as she danced with her cuddly toys. Each toy held a special place in her heart, a token of love from dear friends and family.
Indie's spirit was one of resilience and joy, even in the face of challenges. Her love for life shone brightly, reminding us to cherish every moment and embrace each day with gratitude.
Indie was a bright, healthy, and very happy 22-month year old. We had taught Indie sign language, and her favourite was to grab Dada’s shoes run over to me and say “Dada” then sign Beach 😊. Indie attended Little Starz Day Nursery and received glowing reports. She loved to high five everyone and made everyone she met smile, most of all her Nonna (Grandmother), Grandad and Mim (Grandmother).
Our beautiful daughter would take after her mother who is a nurse and would point out when I had hurt/cut myself by saying "Dada Red". Then getting her toy medical kit that included syringe, scissors, stethoscope and try and fix me. I now dye my beard red as Dada hurts.
On November the 24th after a morning spent with her Nonna and having fun with her best friend Prince (My brother’s dog) we got home and put Indie in her cot for a nap. On going to Indie to wake her from her nap Jodie discovered she was unresponsive. Sparing the details here but thanks to Jodie and the ambulance service we were at the time relieved that we were on the way to hospital with Indie as her heart and breathing had somewhat returned; however, as we would learn over the next 4 days of ups and downs Indie had irreversible brain damage, that was slowly worsening. We still do not have a cause of death and may have to wait over a year for answers.
On November 28th, 2023, at approx. 8.45pm Indie’s life support was turned off. She was surrounded by family and friends with music calmly playing while myself and her mum Jodie sang Mumford and Sons songs to her. She passed at approx. 9pm to the Song ‘Beloved’ by Mumford and Sons.
