Story
This August, I will be travelling to Addis Ababa in Ethiopia, along with a small group of volunteers from Bayes Business School. We will be working with Helping Hanna's Community, a small community-based organisation aimed at supporting Holistic Opportunity for Humanity (HOH), formerly Hanna's Orphan home. Ahead of this trip, I am tasked with raising funds for HOH.
Why would you donate to HOH?
- Supporting Vulnerable Children – HOH began by caring for children who lost both parents to HIV/AIDS or whose parents were too ill to care for them. The charity now helps over 200 children, providing them with safe homes and essential care as some are living at the orphanage and others living in family units.
- Empowering Education – Volunteers assist with HOH's summer school program, helping children transition from learning in Amharic (their native language) to English, a crucial skill for their future education and opportunities. Through this, volunteers do not replace any existing community roles but rather provide support in a fun and creative way that the children and staff have found incredibly beneficial, leading to annual volunteer programs.
- Proven Impact – Since the project began, 90% of children have successfully completed their primary and secondary education, graduated from university or college, and become self-supporting individuals.
- Extending Help to the Community – Beyond children, HOH also supports vulnerable parents, families, and the elderly, making a meaningful difference in the wider Addis Ababa community.
- 100% of Donations Go to the Cause – Every donation directly funds the charity’s needs and projects—none go towards salaries. This year, the orphanage has requested blankets, sheets and pyjamas as well as used laptops.
- Personal Commitment – To raise funds for this cause, I will be running a 20km race in Lausanne (my home city).
- Your Support Makes a Difference – Any contribution, big or small, can help provide resources and opportunities that transform the futures of these children and their communities.
Thank you for your help and support!
