Story

Salaam and let me start by thanking you for taking the time to visit our fundraising page.

Last year we lost our beautiful son Adam.

It was unexpected, it all happened so quickly and before we knew it our world had turned upside down.

At the time we had no idea what had hit us, how to process what we were going through because it all felt like a blur.

Alhamdulillah for Islam, and how it helped us navigate our loss then, and each passing day since. Allahu Musta’an.

Our lovely team of bereavement midwives gave us a special memory box equipped with thoughtful pieces to commemorate our son Adam. We didn’t fully comprehend what it would mean to us, but as time went on, it became even more meaningful and it’s something we cherish everyday.

We were immediately touched by how it was personalised to us, especially as Muslims. With the Arabic inscription of what we say when we lose something:

‎إنَّا لِلّٰهِ وَإِنَّا إلَيْهِ رَاجِعُوْنَ

Innā lillāhi wa innā ilayhi rājiʿūn,

Indeed, to Allah we belong and to Him we will return.

To the little details such as a little blue Tasbih, a handheld book addressing grief from the Quran and Sunnah, to other special, bespoke ways of remembering Adam when we didn’t know how to.

This Ramadan I’m raising funds for the foundation to donate memory boxes to bereaved families, who will encounter the devastating loss of a Baby to Stillbirth, Neonatal Death, Miscarriage or Medical Termination.

Each box is £50 and we're hoping to raise enough for 50 boxes InshaAllah.

It touched our hearts when we needed it most, and I hope by raising money for more, we can be a source of gentle relief for those who will be tested with such an intense trial.

Nobody can do everything but everybody can do something and that counts, especially when in Islam there’s such a huge emphasis on Niyyah, intention.

May you be protected from the trial of an empty crib and a cold body against your skin. May Allah subhanahuwataala make it easy for everyone afflicted by grief and sadness, indeed He does not test us with more than what we can bear.

We would love for you to be a part of this journey, with anything and everything that you can donate to the cause, and it would mean even more if you can share and spread the word with your loved ones.

I leave you with comforting words from the sunnah:

‎إِنَّ لِلّٰهِ مَا أَخَذَ ، وَلَهُ مَا أَعْطَى ، وَكُلٌّ عِنْدَهُ بِأَجَلٍ مُسَمًّى، فَلْتَصْبِرْ وَلْتَحْتَسِبْ

Inna lillāhi mā akhadh, wa lahū mā aʿaṭā, wa kullun ʿindahū bi-ajali-m-musammā, fal-taṣbir wa-l-taḥtasib.

Indeed to Allah Alone belongs what He took, and to Him Alone belongs what He gave, and everything with Him has an appointed time; thus, be patient and hope for Allah’s reward.

And for ease of transparency, every single penny will be donated to the foundation.
