Story
On the 30th May 2022, our Mum, Margaret MacPherson passed away having suffered with Alzheimer’s for the previous 7 years. We are running Marathon du Mont Blanc in her memory and to raise funds for Alzheimer’s Society who are transforming the landscape of dementia forever.
Alzheimer’s, like the marathon is a team and family event. It robs your loved one of their confidence, their balance, their ability to walk, to talk, to wash, to feed themselves, to straighten their limbs, then later on their ability to smile, to swallow. Unfortunately, it’s a disease that takes so much more than memory and recognition. And a very lonely and scary place for the sufferer ahead of diagnosis.
Mum was fortunate to stay at home into her final week, in her garden in her final days due to the dedication of our Dad and a team of caregivers.
Alzheimer’s doesn’t discriminate - it impacts those like Mum who lead a healthy life, exercised often, drank rarely and read daily. From research to specialist support, the Alzheimer’s Society is critical to the care of todays sufferers and vital advancing treatments to ease peoples pain.
Any donation is gratefully received.
