The 999 call from the car accident was routed to the Beds & Herts Emergency Critical Care Scheme (BHECCS) volunteer Critical Care Paramedics and Doctors, who saved Nick's life at the scene, delivering emergency procedures at the roadside, as well as significant blood transfusions. They are entirely funded on donations, and the skill of the volunteer surgeon (thank you, Dr Asher) who was able to attend would have been life saving, in other circumstances.
