Story

Helping other young people like me

Hi I'm Innes and I'm hoping to raise £2,000, or even more with your help, to support some amazing children's charities! Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. If you can, please donate today, it means so much. ❤️

In 2019 when I was 7 I had my first JustGiving page. I cut and donated my hair to the Little Princess Trust, a charity offering wigs to children experiencing hair loss through cancer treatment and other illnesses. I didn't know then that 6 years later, I would be offered support from the very same charity.

In September 2024 I was diagnosed with a rare cancerous brain tumour and in November that year I had neurosurgery at GOSH to remove it. This year, to ensure my better recovery, I needed a further 6 weeks of proton beam radiotherapy at UCLH which is when I lost some of my hair. It was a frightening time for me and my family, filled with questions and unknowns but also the kindness and support of many incredible people and wonderful charities.

It's pretty rubbish having cancer! It can be an isolating time when life becomes just hospital appointments and treatment. It's not possible to go to school, see your friends or be a normal 13 year old. I've completed my treatment now (yay!) but the challenges for young people with cancer and other illnesses don’t end when the treatment does.

The support of several charities has given me the chance to take part in many amazing activities, experiences and adventures and I'd love to help another child have the same opportunity.

Like the amazing trip I took to Orlando Florida with dreamflight - it's truly out of this world, a life changing holiday, with beautiful people and memories I will treasure forever! Or sail the Solent with the Ellen MacArthur Foundation; a brilliant time with other young people who have been living through and beyond cancer. This trip really connected me with new friends, on their own cancer journey, who really ‘get it’. I’d also like to help the Alexandra Sales Trust to send a special gift to someone feeling low. The strength and kindness of Alexandras family is inspirational!

These charities and all their hard-working teams and volunteers ensure children like me are supported when we need it most, they help us feel empowered, build resilience and strength, and give us the tools to navigate our new ‘Normal’ and to live our best lives.

Also, thanks to @tylerjohnstonhair I have embraced my hair loss and now have a new hair donation to send to the Little Princess Trust! So, I hope once again, I can help someone else going through the same as me.

Thank you, love from Innes X
