Story

Since 1982, GMAC Film has been a home for independent film, media literacy and creative opportunity in Glasgow. From our base at Trongate 103 we have supported hundreds of emerging filmmakers, artists and community participants to learn new skills, tell their stories and build careers in film and television.
In February 2026 GMAC was issued a Notice to Quit for our space at Trongate 103 after being presented with a proposed new lease that would increase our rent by more than four times its current level. For a small charity built on project funding and public access work, these terms are simply not viable. Despite widespread support from the cultural sector and the public, the notice has not been rescinded, and the situation for Trongate 103 remains uncertain.
So, we are entering a new chapter.
GMAC is moving to a new home at The Pyramid at Anderston - an exciting partnership that will see us return to the heart of community life and begin the next phase of our journey toward our 50th anniversary.
Together, we will work to create a new community cinema and creative hub, building on everything GMAC has stood for over the past four decades: access, inclusion, creativity, and opportunity.
This is a positive and necessary move, but it is not without challenge.
As a small charity with no core funding and no financial reserves, the reality of transitioning to a new space is complex. Alongside continuing our programmes and supporting our community, we must now safely relocate our equipment, protect our archive, and invest in building a new home that is fit for the future.

For over 40 years GMAC has been part of Glasgow’s cultural ecosystem - a place where people come to learn, experiment, collaborate and tell stories. We have supported thousands of people across the city and beyond: young people discovering filmmaking for the first time, emerging directors developing their craft, community groups exploring media literacy, and artists finding a space where their voices are valued.
In a city that has long been known for its creative energy, places like GMAC and The Pyramid are essential. They provide the infrastructure that allows talent to grow and communities to connect through culture.
But spaces like this are becoming increasingly fragile. Across Glasgow, cultural venues and organisations are disappearing under the pressure of rising property costs and shrinking resources.
GMAC is determined to keep doing what it has always done: supporting new voices, nurturing creative careers, and creating welcoming spaces where culture belongs to everyone.
With your support, we can not only continue, but grow.
We can build something new.
We can deepen our impact.

This fundraising campaign is about protecting the future of GMAC and the work we do. Your support will help us:
1. Navigate the uncertainty created by the current Trongate 103 lease dispute with City Property and Glasgow City Council.
2. Deliver a safe and sustainable transition to our new home at The Pyramid.
3. Continue our projects and programmes with minimal disruption.
4. Protect and relocate our equipment and film archive
5. Support our staff, freelancers and the communities we work with
6. Build a new community cinema space in Anderston
GMAC has always been powered by the belief that culture should be accessible, inclusive and rooted in community. The response we have received in recent weeks shows just how many people believe in that mission too.
This campaign isn’t just about saving GMAC.
It’s about investing in the future of independent film, creative education and cultural space in Glasgow.
Every contribution helps us continue that work.
If you’re not able to donate right now, sharing this campaign with others helps enormously. Every message of support strengthens the case for protecting spaces like GMAC.
