Story

I'm taking part in Run Balmoral to raise vital funds for women's health research at the University of Aberdeen!

---

I am passionate about women's health because every woman, every family can be affected by the difference in medical treatment needs of women and men. The underrepresentation of women in medical research is still very striking. Whether it is pain medication not administered in adapted doses for women, conditions such as endometriosis or diseases such as ovarian cancer going undiagnosed for a long time, or cardiovascular disorders exhibiting different symptoms for women - all of these issues have an immediate impact on the lives of women and their loved ones. Most of us have very likely been affected ourselves or know someone that has.

---

The research taking place at the Aberdeen Centre for Women's Health Research (ACWHR) is dedicated to finding important answers to women's health issues including fertility issues through pregnancy, childbirth, menstrual disorders, precancerous conditions to pelvic floor disorders and incontinence. From 2024, the team will be based alongside NHS colleagues in the new Baird Family Hospital allowing them to work together to provide the best patient care to women and their families locally and internationally. Find out more about the team's research here - www.abdn.ac.uk/acwhr/
