Dr Bell’s Family Centre has been supporting families in Leith since 2006. By offering a welcoming, safe place where families with young children can get support, advice and encouragement, we help remove barriers for families who already face multiple socio-economic challenges. Dr Bell’s Family Centre serves parents and children living in an area among the highest levels of deprivation in Scotland and for whom generational poverty and disadvantage has resulted in low attainment, poor health, mental health issues, as well as feelings of stigma and isolation.

Story

Dr. Bell’s is a family and community centre based in Leith. It’s a place where all families with young children can go for support and advice. They welcome all families and specifically provide focused support for the most disadvantaged. Their inclusive approach helps to remove any stigma associated with reaching out for help.

Some of the classes I attended, such as Baby Massage, Buggy Fit, and Baby Weaning, were fantastic. I always found everyone at the centre to be welcoming and encouraging, which was much appreciated after a sleepless night! After witnessing the great work that Dr. Bell’s does for all young families in Leith, I decided it would be great to raise some money for them while I attempt to run a half marathon. A half marathon is something I would never have considered a few years ago, but since having Rae, running has been my way of feeling more like myself again. I have even managed to run my fastest 5K and 10K times, so it feels like a now-or-never moment!
