Story
In June 2025, I was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. The next month was a whirlwind of scans, egg freezing, and much boob squishing so the incredible team of doctors could get a good look at what they were dealing with.
The chemo started on what would be 8 rounds of the 'hard stuff', followed by surgery, radiotherapy and hormone treatment to continue 5 years post treatment. It was gruelling, my immune system took a hammering and I was hospitalised after my last round of chemo. I managed to still get out in time to make it to the tasting menu in Yorkshire that weekend, thank goodness.
Throughout the past year I have never felt more loved by my incredible family and friends, and more grateful for the out-of-this-world fantastic oncology team at Guys Cancer Centre. I would like everyone to know how grateful I am for all your support - the messages, the secret WhatsApp support group, Scrabble, monopoly deal, the jelly, flowers, Percy pigs, blankets... too many to list!
And the NHS - I never doubted their plan for eliminating those badly behaving cells. They were patient, kind and just generally the best humans I could have asked for. And they did it, I'm cured!
Today, a year after I was diagnosed, I'm back to running!
By running the Royal Parks Half Marathon, you'll help support the incredible NHS staff and exceptional healthcare provided by Guy's Cancer.
Your donations will help make sure everyone gets personalised care which is as unique as they are.
Every penny of your donation will help to make a difference:
£10 could help run a virtual support group session, enabling patients and carers to share their experiences of cancer from the comfort of their own home.
£50 could help provide a comforting care package for someone receiving end of life care, helping to alleviate symptoms and soothe fears.
£150 could provide expert welfare and benefits advice for a patient experiencing financial hardship, giving them the freedom to focus on their recovery.
£350 can help invest in the latest surgical robotic technology, so expert surgeons can work with greater accuracy and send patients home to their families sooner.
