Story
On 22 August 2023, I became a mum to my beautiful girl—the happiest day of my life. But just a few days later, I faced a battle I never saw coming. I developed postpartum psychosis,a severe but treatable mental illness that affects around 1,400 new mums in the UK each year.
With no prior history of mental health issues, I was admitted to a Mother and Baby Unit (MBU)for three weeks to receive lifesaving treatment. I can honestly say that if I had been treated in a general psychiatric ward instead, I might not be here today.
Action on Postpartum Psychosis (APP) is a UK charity that provides vital support for mums and families affected by postpartum psychosis. They offer peer support, raise awareness, fund groundbreaking research, and campaign for better services—including more MBUs, which played a crucial role in my recovery. Their work has been invaluable to me, and now I want to give something back.
On the 11th of May I’ll be running the Plymouth 5K with my two incredible friends, Flor and Cristina, who have been my rocks throughout this journey. Together, we want to raise funds and awareness for APP—so they can continue their incredible work supporting families like mine.
If you’d like to join us, please reach out! And if you can, any donation, big or small, would mean the world. Every pound raised will help APP continue changing and even saving lives.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support!
