Story
In 2020 my dad/father in law was diagnosed with Parkinsons Disease.
Whilst he has shown nothing but strength and courage through this tough time, it hasn't been without significant life limitations.
Parkinsons disease is a movement disorder of the nervous system that worsens over time and is linked to the loss of brain cells that produce dopamine. Dopamine is the hormone involved in the brains reward system and can influence mood, movement and pleasure.
For my dad, each day presents its own problems. From painful muscle spasms, walking issues, tremors, poor heat regulation, the mental impact and a whole list of other complications. My dad is a free spirit from skydiving to scuba diving and a love for the outdoors. To now being disabled with a condition that only worsens.
For myself and our family this is heartbreaking. However, my dad is truly the strongest man I know and still showing us all how great he is.
Steven and I are therefore aiming to complete an ironman 70.3 in May 2026. This is a significant challenge for us both with cardio being a different style of training. Prior to the event, we have never completed any triathlons, never completed a swim event in the sea, did not own a road bike and have never ran a half marathon. We are truly pushing ourselves outwith our comfort zone to raise money for Parkinsons research. Any donations would be greatly appreciated.
