In July 2026, I will be taking on Ironman 70.3 Swansea in memory of my big brother Sam, while raising money for Shine Cancer Support.

Sam battled cancer for three years with a strength and resilience that continues to inspire me every day. He passed away in May 2025 at just 28 years old. Throughout his journey Shine supported him fantastically. They provided understanding, community and genuine care during an unimaginably difficult time. Knowing he had people around him who truly understood what he was going through meant more than I can put into words.

Ironman 70.3 consists of a 1.2 mile open-water swim, a 56 mile bike ride and a 13.1 mile half marathon, completed consecutively in one day. I’m aiming to finish in under six hours. To reach that goal, I’ll be training consistently for months; early mornings, long weekend sessions and structured workouts alongside studying my masters and day-to-day life.

It’s a serious physical challenge, and one I don’t take lightly. Taking this on alongside finishing my Master’s degree, something I promised Sam I would do, feels significant. He showed strength and resilience for three years without ever choosing the circumstances he was in. Completing this race, finishing my degree, and raising money for Shine all feel connected. It’s about following through on what I promised I would do, pushing myself properly, and supporting the charity that supported him so well.
