Story
Isabella is taking part in The British Transplant Games 2026 and this year we are heading to Sheffield! This will be Isabella’s 4th games. We are raising money for King’s College Hospital Charity. King’s College Hospital London is where Isabella had her liver transplant and where her Liver care remains.
I (Gemma - Mum) have decided to take on the challenge of doing a Sky Dive! I am looking to raise a minimum of £400 by the end of June, when my skydive is currently due to take place. I am very excited about doing such an activity to raise money for such an amazing charity!
Isabella was born with Biliary Atresia, a rare liver disease and had her first surgery when she was just 8 weeks old. Isabella’s health started to rapidly deteriorate when she was just 4 months old and was constantly in and out of hospital with barely a week between admissions. Isabella got her life saving liver transplant when she was just 10 months old, thanks to her donor.
Isabella has spent a lot of time at King’s College Hospital in London since she was just 7 weeks old at their specialist liver unit and this is where her care remains along with regular checks ups.
Life after transplant has been very difficult with new diagnosis’, more surgery, more procedures, extra treatment, new medications, change of medications, extra tests, severe allergies, including anaphylaxis, eczema, PTLD (post transplant post lymphoma) and also one Isabella battles every single day, her adrenal insufficiency and hypoglycemia. Isabella suffers from adrenal insufficiency and hypoglycemia due a rare side affects of taking long term steroids.
Isabella has had sepsis 3 times, has had rejection 3 times (most recently in 2024) and has had 3 major adrenal crisis’ due to the adrenal insufficiency and hypoglycemia. These have caused her to have seizures, loose consciousness and undergo adrenal resuscitation. Isabella suffers with regular hypo episodes.
Isabella has an amazing quality of life now, however it doesn’t come without its daily challenges but thanks to her donor and King’s College Hospital she is living life to the fullest.
Isabella is in the 6-8 year old category this year and as previously will be taking part in the 60m sprint, obstacle race, long jump and ball throw.
Isabella, Charlotte, Alex and myself (Gemma - Mum) will also be taking part in the donor run, running/walking 2.5km in memory of Isabella’s donor.
