Isabel's fundraiser for Children with Cancer UK

London Marathon 2025 · 27 April 2025 ·
My incredible friend and collaborator Ruth Hardman (People Development Manager at Superdrug) and her husband Dean have a 5 year old daughter called "Peaches".
Peaches has now been in remission for 4 years.🙏🌟
After being told their daughter was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia they were in complete shock!
Her leukaemia presented itself as a tumour behind her left ear which caused paralysis down her left side of her face and caused damage to her eyes. Her body was in shock and creating excess spinal fluid causing her to have lots of fluid on her brain. This meant Peaches had a lot of pressure in her head which was absolute agony for her.
Their journey was a rollercoaster from day 1 and watching their daughter start chemotherapy just two months before her 2nd birthday was heartbreaking!
It was so unbearable to see the pain she was in. She endured several operations, NG tube insertion, countless blood and platelet transfusions and through it all, was always her funny, beautiful and out going self.
She was unable to see her family and brother because of covid restrictions at the time.
Due to her leukaemia being so aggressive her treatment was also very aggressive meaning she was in hospital for 5 weeks at a time with 1 week break between rounds. She had her 2nd birthday, Christmas and the following new year in hospital.
Ruth and Dean were so grateful for the support from their amazing family + friends, as well as their new from ward 84 who are all an inspiration and of course the nurses and drs at Manchester Children's Hospital.
Children with Cancer's vision is a world where every child and young person survives cancer.
For 35 years, Children with Cancer UK has funded much needed research into the causes of childhood cancers, and the development of better, kinder treatments as well as funding initiatives that support children and their families through cancer treatment and beyond.
Our work has contributed significantly to a marked increase in childhood cancer survival rates and improved quality of life for patients.
Thank you so much for reading and donating.
Yours Gratefully,
Isabel.
