Story
In January 2022, our world changed forever when we lost our dad to suicide. It is impossible to put into words the impact that losing a parent has, especially in such heartbreaking circumstances. Not a day goes by when we don't think about him, miss him, or wish he was still here with us. The grief of losing someone you love never truly leaves you; you simply learn to carry it as best you can.
That is why we have decided to take on the Trek for Tomorrow challenge with Danny Jones from McFly and raise money for CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably). CALM is a charity that works tirelessly to stand against suicide and provide life-saving support to people who are struggling. Their work helps people find hope in their darkest moments and reminds them that they are not alone.
To support this incredible cause, we will be taking on a 30km trek. While 30 kilometres may sound like just a long walk to some, for us it represents so much more. It will be an enormous challenge, both physically and mentally. We will have sore feet, aching legs, exhaustion, and moments when we question whether we can keep going. But none of those challenges compare to the pain of losing our dad, and that is what will keep us moving forward with every step.
This trek is our way of honouring his memory. Every mile we walk will be for him. We will be thinking of the memories we shared, the lessons he taught us, and the love he gave us throughout our lives. We will also be thinking of the countless other families who have experienced similar heartbreak and the people who may be silently struggling right now.
By donating to our fundraiser, you are helping CALM continue its vital work and potentially helping to save lives. Every contribution, no matter how big or small, will make a difference. More importantly, it sends a message that mental health matters, that people matter, and that nobody should have to face their darkest moments alone.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story, for supporting us on this journey, and for helping us honour our dad's memory. Your kindness, encouragement, and donations mean more to us than words can ever express.
